Planning your Facebook Live Event

The dreaded Facebook live talkโ€ฆ.

I know you have heard Facebook lives recommended as a great way to connect with your audience, but somehow you can't bring yourself to go live. Or maybe, you had gone live before it was a complete "disaster."

Can we control everything that happens during the live? Of course not. The dog may bark or squeak a toy (ask me how I know). The internet may glitch, causing you to improvise (ask me how I know again). We can get prepared, which builds confidence to handle anything that may happen in real-time.

I took way too long to go live years ago in my retail group. I don't want the same regret for you. After reading this blog, you will feel encouraged to try (or try again) with your preparation tips in hand + your sun sisters behind you!

Set a date

First things first, you need to set a date. You can poll your audience to ask them if there is a specific date or time that works best for them using the poll feature in your Facebook group. PRO TIP: Offer dates/times you know will work for you ;) Once you have the top 2 answers, wait until 3-5 days out from the live to pick the date. Why? Because life may have changed since you asked that question, and the day you originally picked may no longer work out. When we set the date, we want to do our best not to change it once it has been announced. This may confuse your customers.

Tell your audience

Ok, you are 3-5 days out from the live event; it is time to tell your group members. I highly recommend creating a Facebook event within your Facebook group. You can invite all of your group members, so they get a personal notification. When building your event, be sure the event title clearly communicates what will be covered. Encourage them to ask questions before the live event. What will this live cover? You will do that next.

Write an outline

I do not recommend "doing it live," so to speak. I never go live without a pre-written outline, either typed out or handwritten. This outline allows me to keep focused + not jump all over the place. If I get questions during the live that I know I will cover, I can intelligently let them know I will be answering their question soon. Is your outline only for your eyes? No ๐Ÿ™‚ this outline now becomes your event description. Take the highlights and put them into a bulleted list. Take it to the next level and ask your group event targeted questions regarding your outline. Their responses will provide more content for you to cover while live.

SO WHAT

I want you to be the confident, excited business owner I know you are. I don't want you to feel held back, whether by your own mind or others' comments. The fear of the unknown can be more damaging than what you actually think you fear. By planning + showing up prepared, we move up that confidence ladder, one rung at a time.

  1. I want you to go to your calendar and pick out three dates that could work for a live.
  2. Write them down.
  3. Set the alarm for tomorrow to revisit those notes and start with the first action item, "Set a date."

I would love to cheer you on along the way.

Share your progress in the comments or make a post in our Sun Sister group.
